Thank you for agreeing to be the unit chairperson for the Honorary Service Awards program. Volunteers are our most important asset in Burbank and we appreciate all that you do. Our program is all about recognizing the outstanding individuals in our schools and our community. This could be anyone that has consistently been involved with youth and children and gone above and beyond their normal paid activities to enrich and educate our children. Please take every available opportunity to encourage your parents, staff, and community members to nominate those deserving individuals or organizations. Email or deliver copies of nomination forms to parents, staff, administrators, etc. Have nomination forms available at all of your meetings and continue to encourage nominations.
For those schools that have not appointed a chairperson yet please keep us posted and send contact information to Council PTA as soon as you have a person in place. If you are struggling to find a parent volunteer to take this chairmanship on you might try asking teachers and staff at your unit. Often they are very willing to help with this and at least assist, if not chair, the event for the unit.
There are a number of assignments that you will be responsible for at the unit level, such as copying and distributing nomination forms, forming a committee to select recipients, presenting to the recipients, addressing and mailing invitations (pre-assembled by Council HSA committee) for your unit, and assisting the Council with RSVP’s, directory updates, photos of recipients, writing a short bio of each recipient for the program, and help with set up and clean up on the day of the event.
Forms are available below. These forms will have detailed information, checklist, instructions, deadlines, and contact information. Packets will NOT be delivered to the Presidents meeting during the first week of November. Please make sure you familiarize yourself with the information. A mailing list of past recipients for your unit will be emailed separately at a later date.
There are several dates to be aware of:
- You should be forming your committee no later than the January PTA association meeting.
- Nomination forms should be distributed by January 18 with a return of February 2.
- The committee needs to meet and select from the nominations asap and inform Council of recipients by Feb 16.
- Once you know your recipients, please order pins and certificates from California State PTA ASAP! They can take a few weeks to arrive.
- Presentations should be made at your March Association meeting.
- PLEASE ASSIGN SOMEONE TO TAKE PICTURES. Recipient RSVPs, meal selections, and check should be sent to council ASAP but no later than March 30.
Please take the steps needed to meet all of the deadlines. This includes releasing your budget, getting your checks written and signed, invites emailed out on time, and photos and bios submitted.
